An Inspirational Quote on Hope and Depression

When it feels like all hope is lost, there are two thoughts that need your attention. You may only connect with these ideas on a theoretical or cerebral level at first. That’s fine. You’re probably not going to experience a dramatic positive boost to your mood from pondering two thoughts.

Tell the following to yourself:

  1. The way I feel now is fleeting. It’s a fact that I will not always feel like this. It may feel permanent, but my sense of having no hope is a state of mind, a phase, a cycle, something to pass through, and it distorts the way I see everything….I will feel differently if I just weather the storm.
  2. There is support out there that will accept me and help me. I must move toward accepting support from others even if my depression makes me want to isolate myself and my lack of hope makes me question why I should bother. Support will expedite me passing through my suffering and into another mental phase that allows hope to shine through,

Just let these two ideas about getting over depression enter your consciousness. Remind yourself.

Understanding Depression as a Temporary Saboteur

This inspirational quote on mental health is meant to make you appreciate the impermanence of a depressive state. It doesn’t own you and you do eventually feel relief.

It does help to appreciate that depression may be a part of you, but it is not all of you. That other part of you will bring hope.

Depression is like a saboteur of your hope. It is invested in making you doubt the future and your ability to find happiness. That is how it stays around. Once you entertain the fact that life does change for the better, the saboteur in you loses some power over your mind and your mood. (See my happiness guide for some helpful tips.)

The saboteur of depression is also heavily invested in making you doubt the value of your support system and it steals your energy to keep you alone with your thoughts. Fight against this saboteur. Even if you don’t feel an initial lift from getting support, it will come with repeated efforts to connect with the world.

Your sense of purpose may be temporarily lost, but time and eventually some inner searching can fill you with greater purpose. Here’s a quick lesson and motivational quote on finding your purpose.

It helps to know the initial symptoms of depression so you can take action at the first sign of them. Take a look at this list of symptoms of depression.
