“Speak the truth. Your health depends on it.” -An inspiring quote about the truth and Health.
Everyone knows what it feels like to lie. It registers in your body as a hit against you. The truth can be bent for an acquaintance who you don’t want to disappoint, a loved one who you don’t want to hurt or to your own conscience who you have to protect.
The reasons people lie are many and complex. The reasons people choose to tell the truth are often a bit harder to put into words outside of not wanting to hurt someone or wanting to honor a commitment. A deep self-exploration into why you just lied can be obstructed by the mental pain involved and what you simply can’t acknowledge to yourself.
The Truth Does More Than Set You Free
Here are a few reasons you may not have considered as to why speaking the truth is necessary.
When you acknowledge the truth there is something that is lifted off of you. Life feels lighter. When you lie you add mental weight. Your insides buckle. If you lie a lot, your conscious mind might not register the mental weight you just took on, but at the base of the iceberg peaking out of consciousness, something cracks. Even your internal organs say, “Ouch, WTF?”
Living a life in which the truth cannot be acknowledged creates a stockpile of negativity that can sink your mood and sicken you. Lying also creates psychological distance between you and the people you love. This sense of social disconnection also promotes long-term health issues.
Free yourself by speaking what is true to you. Feel closer to the people who love you. IF you’re struggling with an embracing or scary piece of truth, then first share it with people you trust, in a journal or via a creative outlet.
Lastly, a mental health boost occurs when your actions align with your values and morals, which is one way to look at integrity. For example, if you value the truth, but you just lied to your partner about where you went with your friends or colleagues last night because you know you broke an agreement, then you will feel mental tension based on breaking your word.
The Healthy Truth
Your body releases chemicals that rot your organs when lies are registered by your conscience. However, if you feel inclined to lie, but you choose to speak the truth and deal with the consequences of your actions, then you are set free and you feel closer to your partner even if there’s a price to pay for your poor decision.
Your health will thank you!
